MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL

"The pen is mightier than the sword"

How often have we heard this popular phrase. But have  we ever considered what it may mean to us as individuals? No country can defend itself without an army, so too no person can progress without an education. Awardees are special people; they are a cut above the rest and above average.

2007 was certainly a trying and testing time for Protea Secondary School. The school encountered its first hurdle when the head of its institution, Mr K. Govender took early retirement. However, in spite of the unforeseen circumstances, it is a proud moment to witness such impressionable young minds soar  to great heights of excellence.

As the current head of this institution, it is a privilege and a pleasure to honour those deserving learners who have done our school, their families and themselves proud. Remember students, don't try to fit in, you were born to stand out! Also congratulations to all the educators who contributed to 2007 being such a momentous year in our schools renaissance

Mr C Timothy.

MESSAGE FROM GUEST OF HONOUR

Walking through the gates of Protea Secondary in 1976 was the beginning of my secondary school career, and not knowing what the future holds. One is expected to overcome and be successful going through all the trials and tribulations of life. I believe one has the choice to either stand up and fight or lie down and die. For all the present and future students, you may not have had any influence on the past but always remember you are in control of your future. Do not let your present environment overshadow your dreams and aspirations. I wish you everything of the best in your future endeavors.

 MESSAGE FROM CONVENOR
The year 2007 has proved to be very productive and rewarding year for our matriculants, who were rated the most improved school in KZN. I am indeed honoured , as convenor of the Annual Speech & Awards function to have contributed in some small way to this success. What makes the success more remarkable is the fact that majority of our learners come from an impoverished background experienceing major socio-economic problems. Much credit must also be given to the Task Team that was setup at the beginning of the year and who was responsible for turning our results around.

The awards presentation is one of the highlights of the year, which brings together all role players in education and to reward learners for outstanding and exceptional performance in the various learning areas. I hope this function further serves as an inspiration to our present learners to achieve their best. I am grateful to the staff and management for their inputs and assistance in this function.
